Putney School of Art summer exhibition - collage 'The Black Hat Dance'

My digital print 'Dizzy with Excitement' has been shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition - fingers crossed that second time I might be lucky and have the work hung. Sadly not to be!

Artists Statement -

'Remembrance of things past is not always the remembrance of things as they were' - Marcel Proust.

My recent work considers the strangeness of memory, personal experiences and family recollections. My memories seem to be like a collage or jigsaw puzzle with the images appearing fragile and impermanent, moving between reality and fiction. This new, ongoing series is titled "Compendium of Games".

My practice has been informed by the process of clearing out my childhood home. It is full of memories of a bygone age that has led to a voyage of personal discovery.

I use photographs, old and new plus memorabilia from my past and present. I trace, magnify, reduce and distort the images using scanners, photocopiers and photography. The imagery is then cut up and cut into - it is a process of deconstruction and reconstruction which allows me to assemble new narratives.

Artists who have informed my practice include Hannah Hoch, Linder, Eileen Agar, Robert Rauschenberg and Leonora Carrington.

One of my new collages works was pre-selected for the Columbia Threadneedle Prize in November but unfortunately the work was not selected for the final exhibition.

One of my Photopolymer prints was selected and hung in The London Group Open Exhibition in October.

Wonderful Wandsworth at Oil and Water Contemporary art hung three pieces of my work and sold two.

One of my photopolymer prints was shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Show but unfortunately it was not hung.
